Originally from Sao Paulo, the home of Brazillian Drum & Bass, DJ S.P.Y. is one of the hottest names in the scene at the moment. His productions have found their way into the record boxes of everyone from Goldie and Doc Scott to Bryan G and Marky and are being released on labels from Samurai and Soul:R to Innerground and CIA.
If you are anything like us you probably get that slight pang of guilt when you and your friends are out for a casual 18 holes at the local country club and the topic of charitable donations comes up. You quietly nod and offer encouragement as Julie tells you of her generous contribution to the plight of the endangered Spanish Bull Termite, and you smile politely as Gerald gives you a detailed summary of his many and varied contributions to ensuring that democracy survives in the tiny Democratic Republic of Rajikistan. All the time you hope that the piercing light of enquiry does not shine on you.
Hailing from Perth the epicenter of the Australian drum and bass scene, ShockOne aka Karl Thomas is emerging as one of the scene's major talents. Ascending rapidly from his solid foundation in a band with Rob and Gareth from Pendulum, ShockOne's first two singles 'Silverscreen' and 'It's On' were picked up by DJ Friction for Shogun Audio, followed by the devastating 'The Riddler' and 'We Be Droppin' This' on 12” with Andy C's Frequency label. Last year ShockOne was smashing dancefloors all over the world working with the mighty Viper Recordings to put out 'The Calling' and the cheeky Led Zeppelin sampling 'Way you Move' before dominating the Perth Dance Music Awards by taking home Best Drum&Bass DJ, Best Broken Beat Producer and the ultimate prize in collaboration with Phetsta for the second consecutive time; Best Tune of the Year for 'The Sun'. His meteoric rise continues with 'The ShockOne EP', an eclectic release of drum&bass and dubstep tracks frequently being aired by BBC Radio 1 and the scene's biggest hitters; Andy C, Hype, Friction, High Contrast, Matrix and Futurebound. With two European tours sealed and delivered ShockOne will descend on Auckland as part of his New Zealand tour for the massive multi-zone PREMIUM launch party!
