It may be cliched to say it, but this year has gone bloody quickly. But before we begin the wind-down towards Christmas and the big New Year's Eve parties, there's one last tour to get out of the way. And what a stunner it is to wrap the year up.

Originally from Sao Paulo, the home of Brazillian Drum & Bass, DJ S.P.Y. is one of the hottest names in the scene at the moment. His productions have found their way into the record boxes of everyone from Goldie and Doc Scott to Bryan G and Marky and are being released on labels from Samurai and Soul:R to Innerground and CIA.

From 1999 - 2003 Wellington witnessed some of the finest drum and bass parties New Zealand has ever seen . The combination of Studionine and the emerging drum and bass brand Bass Frontiers set the standard for what was to evolve into one of the healthiest scenes in the Southern Hemisphere. It was a truly a special time for the drum and bass scene and Wellington dance culture in general, vibes were second to none and the parties had a feeling not really ever experienced since . The fortnightly Bass Frontiers local sessions were legendary and the visits by the cream of UK drum and bass such as Bad Company, Dillinja, Grooverider, Zinc, Marky, Doc Scott were always simply incredible. Crew have come and gone but Bass Frontiers remains strong and resolute in its original goals of providing the best possible events for the Wellington party people.

When you look at the number of gigs happening in Wellington these days, it's hard to believe that 10 years ago we were missing out on most of the big international tours coming through the country. Enter Bass Frontiers. In the past decade they have brought Welly to the forefront of the national drum & bass scene, with many big names listing it as one of their preferred cities to play. With that in mind, this Saturday they're celebrating their 10th birthday and, true to form, it promises to be one hell of a party. With two of the most respected DJs in drum & bass holding down the decks, it promises to be a night not to forget. Matt Baseline sat down with DDog this week to reminisce about parties past and look forward at what is to come.

Continuing through May, we leap the Cook Strait and sit down with Wellington's resident freak, Nanotek. After spending several years sculpting his sound, early this year he received the call-up from Dylan to become part of the Freak Recordings crew. For a producer with no releases to get such an offer speaks volumes for the quality of music bursting from Nanotek's studio. Known for the depth and brutality of his tunes, Matt Searle runs a few questions by him to see what makes him tick.
